Healthcare accelerators for adolescent girls and young women living with HIV in South Africa

  • Adolescent girls and young women living with HIV are at risk of poor HIV outcomes, unintended pregnancy and secondary HIV transmission.

  • Little is known about which healthcare factors can improve their HIV outcomes, especially among high-risk sub-groups.

  • Standards to provide adolescent-friendly services have been developed by the World Health Organization, but their full implementation remains elusive, especially in resource-limited settings, or during fiscal restrictions such as during COVID-19.
