The Utility of Multiple Self-Reported Measures of ART Adherence in ART Care for Adolescents Living in Low-Resource Settings: A Longitudinal Study in South Africa

  • Poor adherence is the immediate and urgent challenge among adolescents.

  • The timely identification of ART non-adherence among adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) presents a significant challenge in resource-limited settings where virologic monitoring is suboptimal.

  • We examined the association between elevated viral load (VL ≥1000 copies/mL) and seven self-reported adherence measures on missed doses, and clinic appointments –with varying recall timeframes.
